Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has urged Igbos and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to “waste their votes” in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no serious challenger ahead of the polls.
Speaking at an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, Abia State, the former governor said the opposition remains too weak to mount a credible challenge against the ruling party. He expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in 2027, describing the opposition as being “in tatters.”
Kalu argued that Nigeria’s electoral process requires broad national support to win the presidency, urging the South-East to embrace national unity if it hopes to produce a Nigerian president in the future. He also dismissed claims that President Tinubu would lose support in Northern Nigeria, maintaining that many voters would prefer continuity over starting afresh with a new administration.
The senator further defended the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, saying the current economic difficulties are part of a broader global challenge rather than a problem unique to Nigeria. He also appealed to APC leaders in Abia State to remain united and avoid internal divisions ahead of future elections.
