Members of the University of Benin chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have resolved to continue their indefinite strike over what they described as incomplete payment of their August salaries. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has said state governors, rather than President Bola Tinubu, should be held responsible for explaining how funds accruing from the removal of petrol subsidy are being spent. Abiodun said the removal of the subsidy had increased allocations to state governments, making governors better positioned to account for how the additional revenue was being utilised. The Kaduna State Police Command said it had arrested a man following the alleged killing of his girlfriend in Kaduna. The suspect, identified as Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, is being investigated over the death of 35-year-old Rebecca Ojoniko Jeremiah. A 53-year-old woman, Nelly Monday, has been sentenced to one month in prison for dumping refuse into a drainage channel in Lagos State. Monday was arrested in the Meiran area of the state on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, after she was allegedly caught disposing of waste in the drain during rainfall. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has threatened to ground academic activities in public universities across the country if the Federal Government and state governments fail to meet the union’s demands. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to upload and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
