Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has queried and ordered the termination of Apostle Kassy Chukwu’s appointment as Special Senior Assistant, SSA. The action followed a post made by Apostle Kassy in which he stated that music star Davido should not enter Edo State again. The statement quickly went viral and drew public criticism, prompting the governor to respond.

The post by Apostle Kassy was seen as inciting and capable of causing tension, especially coming from a government appointee. Davido has a large fan base across Nigeria, and any statement barring him from a state can easily trigger backlash and division. The governor’s query was aimed at getting clarification on the motive and context behind the comment before taking further steps.

After reviewing the matter, Governor Okpebholo ordered the termination of the appointment. The decision shows the administration’s stance that public officials must be circumspect in their utterances, especially on sensitive matters involving public figures and interstate relations. Government appointees are expected to promote unity, not controversy.

The SSA role is to support the governor’s agenda and project a positive image of the state. When an appointee makes statements that can damage the state’s reputation or spark unnecessary conflict, it becomes a governance and PR issue. Terminating the appointment sends a clear message about the standards expected of those in office.

This incident also highlights how social media posts by public officials can have immediate political consequences. A single statement can lead to a query, public debate, and eventual removal from office. For Edo State, the governor’s action reinforces the need for discipline and responsible communication among appointees.
