The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has arrested a resident of Meiran, Lagos State, for allegedly disposing of refuse into a drainage channel during rainfall.

The suspect was apprehended in a joint operation involving the LAWMA Enforcement Team, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, and mobile police officers attached to the enforcement team.

The resident, identified as a person living at No. 13, Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, Meiran, was arrested following a tip-off received by the enforcement team.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed the development in a post on his official X account on Wednesday.

According to Gbadegesin, the enforcement team received information alleging that the resident was dumping refuse into a drainage channel while rainfall was ongoing.

He said the suspect was caught at the location and subsequently taken to the KAI headquarters for prosecution.

Gbadegesin stated, “A joint enforcement operation involving the LAWMA Enforcement Team, LAGESC, KAI, and the Mobile Police attached to the team has led to the arrest of a resident of No. 13, Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, Meiran, Lagos.

“The arrest followed a tip-off received by the enforcement team alleging that the resident was dumping refuse into a drainage channel during today’s rainfall.

“The suspect was apprehended at the location and has since been taken to the KAI headquarters for further prosecution. This is the situation as of this hour today, Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

“Residents are once again strongly advised to desist from indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly into drainage channels, as such actions contribute directly to blocked drains and flooding.”
