A 31-year-old woman, Funke Femiloba, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Lagos over alleged impersonation of OPay Digital Services Limited and obtaining money from members of the public under false pretence.

Femiloba was arraigned on September 24, 2026, on a four-count charge filed as case number MIK/P/53/26.

The police alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large to obtain money by false pretence and falsely represented herself as a staff member of OPay Digital Services Limited.

Following her arraignment, the court ordered that Femiloba be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The case was subsequently adjourned until November 30, 2026, for hearing.

In the first count, the police alleged that Femiloba and others now at large, sometime in September 2026, in Ikeja, Lagos, conspired to commit a felony, namely obtaining by false pretence.

The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

In the second count, the police accused Femiloba and the other suspects of impersonating a staff member of OPay Digital Services Limited, allegedly representing herself in a capacity she knew to be false.

The alleged offence was brought under Section 78 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The third count alleged that the defendant and others conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by misleading members of the public.

The police said the alleged conduct contravened Section 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

In the fourth count, Femiloba was accused of obtaining a specific amount of money from a member of the public.

The alleged offence was said to contravene Section 313 and be punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
