A 55-year-old motorist has escaped unhurt after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged.

The train was travelling towards Agege when the collision occurred, involving the Honda, with registration number EKY 902 JT.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and security personnel swiftly rescued the driver and removed the wrecked vehicle from the railway track, enabling the train to resume its journey.

No casualty was reported in the incident.

However, the collision caused severe traffic congestion around the PWD axis, disrupting vehicular movement along the affected corridor.

The wrecked vehicle was subsequently handed over to security personnel for investigation into the cause of the collision.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their prompt and coordinated response.

He emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration and rapid emergency intervention in managing incidents involving railway operations and adjoining road infrastructure.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching railway crossings, warning against attempting to cross the tracks when a train was approaching or already in motion.

He said reckless disregard for railway safety regulations could result in devastating consequences, urging road users to prioritise human life by complying with established traffic and railway safety rules.
