More than 30 persons have been killed in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), the victims were killed during an invasion by armed men on Narido community in Kauru LGA.

The union said about 30 persons, including women and children, were killed, while several others sustained injuries in the Monday morning attack.

SOKAPU appealed to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police to urgently deploy tactical security assets to vulnerable communities.

The appeal was contained in an open letter dated July 27, 2026, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command and copied to Governor Uba Sani of the state.

The letter was made available to our correspondent by the National President of SOKAPU, Engr. Samuel Tabara Kato.

In the letter, Tabara expressed concern over what he described as the worsening wave of killings, kidnappings and destruction of farmlands across Southern Kaduna.

SOKAPU acknowledged the efforts of the police and ongoing security engagements in the state but lamented that rural communities in Kajuru, Chikun, Kauru and Zangon Kataf local government areas continued to suffer repeated attacks.

According to the group, many families have been displaced from their ancestral homes, while farming communities now live in fear as armed criminal groups continue to operate in remote settlements.

“The current incidents of violence demand a sharp departure from reactive responses to aggressive and proactive law enforcement,” the letter read.

The union called on the police command to immediately deploy mobile police and counter-terrorism units to high-risk communities and vulnerable forest corridors.

It also urged the command to strengthen security patrols around farming districts to enable farmers cultivate, weed and harvest their crops without fear of attacks or abduction.

SOKAPU further appealed for intensified intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying and dismantling criminal hideouts, rather than responding only after attacks have occurred.

The group also called on the police to improve communication with affected communities and ensure prompt responses to distress calls in order to rebuild public confidence.

It noted that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, expressing confidence that the Commissioner of Police would give the appeal the attention it deserves to prevent further violence in the region.
