The Federal Ministry of Power, through the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, in partnership with the Kano State Government, has commissioned four transmission substations, adding 544MW of wheeling capacity to Kano State’s power grid. The substations are located at Walalambe, Kumbotso, Dakata and Dan-Agundi. Walalambe has a new 80MW-capacity substation with two 40MVA transformers, while Kumbotso has received 300MVA at the 330kV level and 100MVA transformers. Dakata and Dan-Agundi have each gained an additional 100MVA transformer at the 132kV level. The naira depreciated against the dollar on the official foreign exchange market on Thursday. Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, showed that the naira weakened further to N1,344.40 per dollar on Thursday, compared with N1,334.72 recorded on Wednesday. This means the naira depreciated by N9.68 against the dollar on a day-to-day basis, marking its highest depreciation this week. Similarly, the naira weakened at the black market to N1,377 per dollar on Thursday, compared with N1,375 traded on Wednesday. A man has died while attempting to rescue a two-year-old child who fell into a well at Abule Egba, Lagos State. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed this in a statement issued by its permanent secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu. The incident occurred at Paul Street, inward Agbe Road, Abule Egba, where the toddler, whose mother worked as a cleaner in the compound, reportedly fell into the well accidentally. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has given an update on the health condition of the Ebola patient in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. Speaking during an emergency meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the Director of Public Health Laboratory Service at the NCDC, Olajumoke Babatunde, said the patient is a diplomat whose condition has deteriorated to multi-organ failure.
