The Edo State Special Court for the hearing of cultism and kidnapping cases has begun delivering judgment in its first case involving four alleged kidnappers. The court premises were crowded on Tuesday as residents and other interested persons gathered to hear the outcome of the case. The four defendants — Marvellous Isaac, 32; Wisdom Michael, 36; Rufus Emete Michael, 30; and Gift Raphael, 27 — were charged with alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms. Two weeks after five Juma’at imams were abducted by bandits in Zamfara State, their whereabouts remain unknown. The clerics were kidnapped on September 13 while travelling to Talata Mafara to attend a special prayer session organised for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. They were abducted at Gidan Suleiman Bature, about three kilometres from Damri village. Delta State Police Command has arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three others over the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the ministry. Ashibogwu was arrested alongside three others as police expanded the investigation into the incident leading to the Director’s death. Troops of Sector 4 of the Nigerian military have arrested a suspected impostor allegedly posing as a soldier at Tsamiya Checkpoint in Barama, Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Troops of the 90 Amphibious Battalion, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested nine suspected drug peddlers in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State. Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the management of Kebbi State’s finances has emerged as a major political issue, with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, demanding an account of funds it said accrued to the state between May 2023 and October 2025. Dangote Refinery-backed MRS filling stations have reduced their petrol pump price. MRS filling stations in Abuja had adjusted their petrol pump price to N1,370 per litre from N1,395 per litre.
