The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four police officers accused of extorting N53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN).

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed that the officers allegedly deserted their assigned duty posts and mounted an unauthorized checkpoint near Banex Plaza in Wuse, Abuja, where they intercepted the ICPC chairman.

According to the police, the officers allegedly compelled Dr. Aliyu to withdraw N53,000 through a Point of Sale (POS) operator, including transaction charges, before sharing the money among themselves.

CP Sanusi said the alleged ringleader was arrested first, and information obtained during interrogation led to the arrest of the three other officers linked to the incident.

Describing the suspects as “thieves in uniform,” the police commissioner said they had betrayed the trust of the Force and would face an orderly room trial, dismissal from service and possible criminal prosecution.

He reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for extortion, illegal checkpoints and other forms of misconduct, warning that any officer found exploiting members of the public would be decisively dealt with.
